Troubleshooting Ethernet Service Troubleshooting15-20 User Manual ML700Ethernet Service Fault Isolation ToolsThe ML device system provides the following tools for Ethernet troubleshooting in additionto alarm indications: Ping for verifying IP connectivity from the ML device system to a particular (specified)system on your network; Ethernet Port Statistics providing standard Ethernet counters per port. For details, seeEthernet Statistics or Ethernet BW Monitoring (on page 13-28).PingThe Ping dialog box is a network diagnostic tool interface used to verify connectivity to aparticular system on your network. For example, you can check if the customer premisesequipment is connected to the Actelis system and is online. Ping sends ICMP echo requestsin the form of a data packet to a remote destination and displays the results for each echorequest. This exchange is referred to as pinging. The Ping command also displays the timefor a response to arrive in milliseconds and packet size. To send a Ping request:1. In the Network Element tree, open Management Interfaces. The ManagementInterfaces pane opens.2. Click Ping. The Ping dialog appears. See the following figure.3. In the Ping Request area, select the destination of the required NE: IP Address or LocalHost. Type the Host IP address if selected.4. In the Packet Count box, you can set the number of data packets sent by the pingcommand (default is 3).5. Click the Send button.The Ping tool sends an echo request and waits for the echo reply. If the ping wassuccessful, summary lines are displayed in the Ping Response area, indicating the resultof the ping. A response message appears after less than a second.6. During pinging, the Send button toggles to Stop. You can click Stop at any time to stopthe ping.
