Management and Configuration94 AXIS 5400+ / AXIS 5600+ User’s Manual3. Restart the print server’s protocols by typing:softresetReplace the command in step 3 above with hardreset or default toperform the other two reset operations.Using SNMPYou can use SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) for remotelymonitoring and configuring of the Axis Network Print Server. All majorfunctions for print servers are supported.General Information SNMP refers to a set of standards for network management, including aprotocol, a database structure specification, and a set of data objects. TheAxis Network Print Server SNMP implementation runs in the TCP/IPenvironment.The management is handled by NMS (Network Management System)software running on a host on your network. The NMS softwarecommunicates with network devices by the means of messages, which arereferences to one or more objects.A message can be a question or an instruction to a device, or an alarmtriggered by a specific event in a device. Objects are contained in databases called MIBs (Management Information Base), where MIB-II is astandard database. The Axis Network Print Server supports all relevant parts of MIB-II andalso includes a private enterprise MIB. Refer to The AXIS MIB, on page94.System Requirementsfor SNMPThe following requirements must be fulfilled in order to make full use ofthe Axis Network Print Server SNMP support:• NMS software that allows you to install private enterprise MIBs• A host, supporting FTP, on which to run the NMS softwareFollow these steps to add the AXIS MIB to your NMS software:1. Log in to the Axis Network Print Server using FTP.2. Download the MIB file /snmp/axis.mib to the NMS host.3. Install the AXIS MIB according to instructions in your NMS softwaredocumentation. The AXIS MIB The AXIS MIB contains a large number of objects which may be
