Section 7: Advanced Options66 Axis NPS 650 User’s ManualSNMPYou may use SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) for remotemonitoring of the NPS 650. All major functions applicable to print serv-ers are supported.SNMP actually refers to a set of standards for network management, including a protocol, a database structure specification, and a set of dataobjects. The NPS 650 SNMP implementation runs in the TCP/IPenvironment.The actual management is handled by an NMS (Network ManagementSystem) software running on a host on your network. The NMS softwarecommunicates with network devices by the means of messages, which arereferences to one or more objects. An object can be a question or an instruction to a device, or an alarmtriggered by a specific event. Objects are contained in data bases calledMIBs (Management Information Base), where MIB-II is a standarddatabase. The NPS 650 supports all relevant parts of MIB-II. It also includes aprivate enterprise MIB (the AXIS MIB described in the NPS Print ServerTechnical Reference).
