Power LiftgatePower Liftgate Operation{ CAUTION:Exhaust gases can enter the vehicle if it is drivenwith the liftgate, trunk/hatch open, or with anyobjects that pass through the seal between thebody and the trunk/hatch or liftgate. Engineexhaust contains Carbon Monoxide (CO) whichcannot be seen or smelled. It can causeunconsciousness and even death.If the vehicle must be driven with the liftgate, ortrunk/hatch open:• Close all of the windows.• Fully open the air outlets on or under theinstrument panel.• Adjust the Climate Control system to a settingthat brings in only outside air and set the fanspeed to the highest setting. See ClimateControl System in the Index.• If the vehicle is equipped with a power liftgate,disable the power liftgate function.For more information about carbon monoxide, seeEngine Exhaust on page 2-38.On vehicles with a power liftgate the button is locatedon the overhead console.The vehicle must be in PARK (P) to use the powerliftgate feature.& : Press the top of the button to open or close thepower liftgate.OFF: Press the bottom of the button for manualoperation of the power liftgate.The taillamps will flash and a chime will sound when thepower liftgate is moving.{ CAUTION:You or others could be injured if caught in thepath of the power liftgate. Make sure there is noone in the way of the liftgate as it is opening andclosing.Notice: If you open the liftgate without checkingfor overhead obstructions such as a garage door,you could damage the liftgate or the liftgate glass.Always check to make sure the area above andbehind the liftgate is clear before opening it.2-14
