To tighten the belt, push downon the child restraint, pull theshoulder portion of the belt totighten the lap portion of the belt,and feed the shoulder belt backinto the retractor. When installinga forward-facing child restraint, itmay be helpful to use your kneeto push down on the childrestraint as you tighten the belt.If the child restraint system hasa lock-off mechanism, use it tosecure the vehicle safety belt.6. Before placing a child in thechild restraint, make sure it issecurely held in place. Push andpull the child restraint in differentdirections to be sure it is secure.If the airbags are off, the offindicator in the passenger airbagstatus indicator will come on andstay on when the vehicle is started.If a child restraint has been installedand the on indicator is lit, see “If theOn Indicator Is Lit for a ChildRestraint” under Passenger SensingSystem on page 3-28.To remove the child restraint,unbuckle the vehicle safety belt andlet it return to the stowed position.
