The grid of dots used for each toner color is called ascreen. Halftone screens are aligned to unique angles designed to eliminateinterference patterns called moiré (a shimmering, wavy effect) that can arise withhalftoning. If [Resolution] is selected, a dither pattern that gives priority to the resolution ofthe images is used. This helps eliminate the appearance of jagged or unevenlines along the edges of objects and is best for printing standard text andgraphics. If [Gradation] is selected, a dither pattern that gives priority to the appearance ofsmooth changes in tone is used. This is best for reproducing images with delicategradations or changes of tone.If [Error Diffusion] is selected, an error diffusion method that gives priority toprinting fine lines or text is used. This is best for printing images with small text orvery fine lines.IMPORTANTThe setting for 'Text' is invalid if 'Resolution' is set to [1200 dpi].NOTEA dither pattern creates the illusion of varying shades of gray or additional colors bytreating areas of an image as groups of dots that are colored in different patterns.GradationResolution Error DiffusionThe above dithering patterns are examples.
