Troubleshooting7-28NoteCleaning the PrintheadWhen the ink nozzles of the printhead become clogged, you can restorenormal operation by cleaning the printhead.Cleaning the printhead consumes ink, so clean the printhead only when it isnecessary.Types of Printhead CleaningThere are 3 methods for printhead cleaning.Head Cleaning APerform when the printing is faint or when dust has collected on theprinthead. This cleaning method consumes the least amount of ink. HeadCleaning A requires about 1 minute to complete.Head Cleaning BPerform when the printing is blank or when Head Cleaning A does notcorrect the problem. Head Cleaning B requires about 2 minutes tocomplete.Head Cleaning CPerform when the printer has not been used for a long period, or whenHead Cleaning B does not correct the problem. This cleaning methodconsumes the most ink. Head Cleaning C requires about 3 minutes.When there is little ink remaining, printhead cleaning B or C would not beperformed properly. Check the ink tanks to make sure that more than 40% of allinks remain, before you clean the printhead. If there is little ink remaining,replace the ink tank with new tank before you perform printhead cleaning.Head Cleaning ProcedureFollow the procedure below to clean the printhead. The procedure isbasically the same for all 3 methods for cleaning the printhead.• If 1 execution of Head Cleaning A does not correct the problem,perform Head Cleaning B.• If Head Cleaning B does not correct the problem, repeat HeadCleaning B 2 or 3 times.
