Each mode is described below.z Online modeThe printer immediately processes a print job sentfrom the computer.z Offline modeThe printer receives a job from the computer but thejob is held in the standby status without processing it.While the printer is offline, you can load or cut mediamanually, access the carriage, and perform other pro-cedures.The printer also goes offline automatically any time theprinter cannot start processing a print job, such aswhen there is no print media loaded, when an erroroccurs, and so on.z Menu modeThe menu mode displays the function menus on theprinter display. Press the buttons on the operationpanel to set or execute the functions in the menus.Like the offline line mode, this mode places all jobs instandby status.Notez Use the Use Power Save and Sleep Timer settingson the printer operation panel to set the sleep modeon/off timing. When Use Power Save is set On, youcan use the Sleep Timer to set the length of time untilthe printer enters sleep mode. (→ P.1-28)z If the printer remains idle for more than 15 minuteswith the cover closed (if no print jobs are received or ifno operation panel buttons are pressed), the printerautomatically enters the sleep mode to conserveenergy. Only the Online lamp remains on while theprinter is in the sleep mode; the display and otherlamps remain off. The printer awakens from the sleepmode as soon as it receives a print job or if you pressany button on the operation panel. The printer requiresabout 5 seconds to recover from the sleep mode.
