9.9 Stop Methods9.9.1 Coast to StopCoast to stop lets the motor slow at its natural rate with no control from the soft starter. The time required to stop depends on the typeof load.9.9.2 Timed Voltage RampTimed voltage ramp (TVR) reduces the voltage to the motor gradually over a defined time. This can extend the stopping time of themotor and may avoid transients on generator set supplies.N O T I C EThe load may continue to run after the stop ramp is complete.706050301040208090100e77ha509.101%Voltage (% full voltage)Time1 Parameter 2-10 Stop TimeIllustration 30: Example of TVR9.9.3 Adaptive Control for StoppingIn an adaptive control soft stop, the soft starter controls the current to stop the motor within a specified time and uses a selecteddeceleration profile. Adaptive control can be useful in extending the stopping time of low inertia loads. If adaptive control is selected, the first soft stop uses TVR. This allows the soft starter to learn the characteristics of the connectedmotor. This motor data is used by the soft starter during subsequent adaptive control stops.N O T I C EAdaptive control does not actively slow the motor down and does not stop the motor faster than a coast to stop. To shortenthe stopping time of high inertia loads, use brake.OperationOperating Guide | VLT® Soft Starter MCD 600AQ262141844215en-000202 / 175R1174 | 61Danfoss A/S © 2018.10
