42 Magellan™ 8300/8400Changing Weighing ModesYour scanner/scale has been programmed for weighing in eitherpounds or kilograms depending upon the initial operating environ-ment that was specified when you ordered your scanner/scale. Ifyou need to change from pounds to kilograms or vice-versa, calltechnical support.You can verify that the scale is set correctly for your country’srequirements by observing that the Remote Scale Display shows theappropriate measurement symbol (lb or kg) when the power-upSelftest is completed.Set-Up & InstallationThese setup and installation procedures assume that you havealready prepared your checkstand to receive the scanner or scan-ner/scale. If you have not already made the counter cutout androuted power and interface cables, do so now as described in theprevious instructions. If your checkstand has been prepared, pro-ceed as follows:Set-up1. Place the scanner on the checkstand next to the counter cut-out.2. Make all connections to peripheral devices, such as theRemote Scale Display (see Figure 26) and, if your installationincludes an EAS system, refer to that manufacturer’s instruc-tions for connection and start-up procedures.3. Route the cables up through the cutout and connect the scan-ner and scale interface cable(s), EAS cable and Remote ScaleDisplay cable (optional) to the scanner. Some POS terminalsrequire two interface cables; one for the scanner interface andone for the scale interface. Refer to Figure 28 for cable con-nection locations.NOTEAny time the scale weighing mode is changed, the scalemust be re-calibrated before commercial use.
