The following text describesthese modes, what they mean, and how and when they are seen.Power-Up/Selftest & Pre-OperationPre-Operation describes those steps that must be successfullycompleted before the scanner sounds the initial good read tone andilluminates the lamps indicating the scanner and/or scale are readyfor operation. These steps include Power-Up Selftest, Error Report-ing, and Operational Configuration.Power-Up/SelftestPower-Up Selftest begins when power is applied. The scanner’ssoftware immediately begins the testing sequence to verify that allsystems are functioning properly. This routine, which only takes afew seconds, checks all the functions of the scanner, EAS deactiva-tion system, scale, remote scale display and interface prior to indi-cating that it is ready for operation.NOTEA tone indicating Selftest is complete is a configurable feature. See thetopic Power-up Beep Control on page 127 in the Programming chapter ofthis manual.
