Warranties and Return Policy E-145This warranty does not cover any items that are in one ormore of the following categories: software; sound cards;speakers; external devices; accessories or parts added to aDell system after the system is shipped from Dell; accesso-ries or parts added to a Dell system through Dell’s systemintegration department; accessories or parts that are notinstalled in the Dell factory; or DellWare products. Moni-tors, keyboards, and mice that are Dell-branded or that areincluded on Dell’s standard price list are covered underthis warranty; all other monitors, keyboards, and mice(including those sold through the DellWare program) arenot covered. Batteries for portable computers are coveredonly during the initial one-year period of this warranty.Coverage During Year OneDuring the one-year period beginning on the invoicedate, Dell will repair or replace products returned toDell’s facility. To request warranty service, you must callDell’s Customer Technical Support within the warrantyperiod. Refer to the chapter titled “Getting Help” in yourDiagnostics and Troubleshooting Guide to find theappropriate telephone number for obtaining customerassistance. If warranty service is required, Dell will issuea Return Material Authorization Number. You must shipthe products back to Dell in their original or equivalentpackaging, prepay shipping charges, and insure the ship-ment or accept the risk of loss or damage duringshipment. Dell will ship the repaired or replacementproducts to you freight prepaid if you use an address inCanada. Shipments to other locations will be madefreight collect.NOTE: Before you ship the product(s) to Dell, back upthe data on the hard-disk drive(s) and any other storagedevice(s) in the product(s). Remove any removablemedia, such as diskettes, CDs, or PC Cards. Dell doesnot accept liability for lost data or software.Dell owns all parts removed from repaired products. Delluses new and reconditioned parts made by various manu-facturers in performing warranty repairs and buildingreplacement products. If Dell repairs or replaces a prod-uct, its warranty term is not extended, except as may berequired by law.Coverage During Years Two and ThreeDuring the second and third years of this limited war-ranty, Dell will provide, on an exchange basis,replacement parts for the Dell hardware product(s) cov-ered under this limited warranty when a part requiresreplacement. You must report each instance of hardwarefailure to Dell’s Customer Technical Support in advanceto obtain Dell’s concurrence that a part should bereplaced and to have Dell ship the replacement part. Dellwill ship parts using next-business-day delivery, shippingprepaid if you use an address in Canada. Shipments toother locations will be made freight collect. Dell willinclude a prepaid shipping container with each replace-ment part for your use in returning the replaced part toDell. Replacement parts are new or reconditioned. Dellmay provide replacement parts made by various manu-facturers when supplying parts to you. The warranty termfor a replacement part is the remainder of the limitedwarranty term.You will pay Dell for replacement parts when thereplaced part is not returned to Dell within 30 days afterthe date the replacement part was shipped by Dell and forparts used to repair systems not covered by this limitedwarranty. In these events, replacement parts will bepriced at Dell’s then-current standard prices. Payment forthese parts is due within 30 days from the date of invoice.NOTE: You accept full responsibility for your softwareand data.
