Installing and Configuring SCSI Drivers 3-33Using NetWare to Install or Update theDriverThis section describes how to update or install theaic7870.dsk driver if NetWare 3.12 or 4.x is alreadyinstalled. If you are installing NetWare 3.12 or 4.x for thefirst time, see “Installing NetWare and the Driver” foundearlier in this section. The instructions for updating or installing the driver aresimilar for both NetWare 3.12 and 4.x. Procedures thatare specific to a particular NetWare version are noted.1. Make a backup copy of the old driver (if it exists)before installing the new driver.2. Copy the aic7870.dsk driver and aspitran.dsk mod-ule from the NetWare 3.12 or 4.x driver disketteyou created into the server’s start-up directory(usually, c:\nwserver) on your hard-disk drive.Doing so overwrites any existing version of thedrivers in the directory.NOTE: For both NetWare 3.12 and 4.x, theaic7870.dsk and aspitran.dsk files are located inthe scsi subdirectory on the diskette.3. If necessary, modify the load command line in thestartup.ncf file so that the proper path to thedriver and the correct slot number are specified.See “Using startup.ncf and autoexec.ncf” foundlater in this section. The correct syntax to load the Adaptec 78xx driverfollows::load [pathname] aic7870.dsk [options] slot=xCommand line options are not case sensitive. Placingcommas between command line options is optional.See the next section, “Using the load Command LineOptions,” for optional values. To calculate the slotnumber for each host adapter, see “Calculating theSlot Number” found earlier in this section.4. Load the driver for the first installed hostadapter. If you have additional host adapters, youmust load the driver separately for each hostadapter.Using the load Command Line OptionsYou can specify several command line options when theTable 3-2. load Command Line OptionsOption Values Default Descriptionslot= 10-41,100-141, andso forthNone Defines host adapter device location. If none is given, youare prompted to specify one.verbose= y n Causes driver to display host adapter configurationinformation at load time.removable= on, off on Enables support for removable media. By default, removable media is supported. You may want to disableremovable disk support in order to load an ASPIremovable disk module.fixed_disk= on, off on Enables support for hard-disk drives. By default, hard-disk drives are supported. You may want to disable fixeddisk support in order to load an ASPI fixed disk module.* On the AIC-7880 and optional AHA-2940UW, these values become FFFF.NOTE: For the full name of an abbreviation or acronym used in this table, see the Glossary.
