Installing Drives 9-13• If you are installing an external SCSI device, connect the socket end of the power cable intothe AC power receptacle on the back of theSCSI device. Connect the other end of thepower cable into a standard electrical walloutlet.Check all other cable connections. Fold all internalcables out of the way to provide airflow for the fanor cooling vents.9. If you installed an externally accessible device, remove the front bezel and remove the front-panel insert for the drive bay from the front bezel. Then replace the front bezel. For instructions, see “Removing and Replacing theFront Bezel” and “Removing and Replacing Front-Panel Inserts” found earlier in this chapter.10. Replace the computer cover. Then reconnect yourcomputer and peripherals to their power sources, and turn them on.11. If necessary, enter the System Setup program toupdate the system configuration information. If you installed a SCSI hard-disk drive, set the Drivecategory (0 or 1) under Drives: Primary to None. Forinstructions, see Chapter 3, “Using the System SetupProgram.”Tape drives attached to a SCSI host adapter card arenot part of the system configuration information.12. If you installed a SCSI hard-disk drive, partitionand format the drive. Then install the operatingsystem. For instructions, see the next subsection, “Partition-ing and Formatting SCSI Hard-Disk Drives,” andyour operating system documentation.13. Test the SCSI devices.Test a SCSI hard-disk drive by running the SCSI diag-nostics. See your Diagnostics and TroubleshootingGuide for information on running the diskette-baseddiagnostics and troubleshooting any problems thatmay occur. To test a SCSI tape drive, refer to the documentationfor the tape drive software to perform a tape drivebackup and verification test.Installing a Third SCSI Hard-Disk DriveYour mini tower chassis supports the installation of athird SCSI hard-disk drive, which comes with its owndrive bracket and a new SCSI cable. To install a thirdSCSI hard-disk drive, complete these steps:1. If you are replacing a hard-disk drive that con-tains data you want to keep, be sure to make abackup of your files before you begin thisprocedure.2. Unpack the SCSI hard-disk drive, and prepare itfor installation.Configure the drive for a SCSI ID number, if neces-sary. For instructions, see the documentation thatcame with the drive as well as “SCSI ConfigurationGuidelines” found earlier in this section.3. Remove the computer cover as instructed in“Removing the Computer Cover” in Chapter 7.4. Remove the expansion card cage as instructed in“Removing the Expansion Card Cage” in Chap-ter 7.5. Rotate the hard-disk drive bracket out to gainaccess to the inside of the chassis.Note the orientation of and then disconnect anycables attached to the back of the drives installed inthe hard-disk drive bracket.Remove the screw securing the hard-disk drivebracket to the drive cage in the chassis.CAUTION: Ground yourself by touching anunpainted metal surface on the back of thecomputer.CAUTION: When you unpack the drive, donot set it on a hard surface, which may damagethe drive. Instead, set the drive on a surface, such as a foam pad, that will sufficiently cush-ion it.CAUTION: See “Protecting Against Electro-static Discharge” in the safety instructions atthe front of this guide.
