(pins 1–2).Disabling a forgotten passwordThe system's software security features include a system password and a setup password. The passwordjumper enables these password features or disables them and clears any password(s) currently in use.PrerequisitesCAUTION: Many repairs may only be done by a certified service technician. You should onlyperform troubleshooting and simple repairs as authorized in your product documentation, or asdirected by the online or telephone service and support team. Turn off the system, including any attached peripherals, and disconnect the system from theelectrical outlet.2. Remove the system cover.3. Move the jumper on the system board jumper from pins 2 and 3 to pins 1 and 2.4. Install the system cover.The existing passwords are not disabled (erased) until the system boots with the jumper on pins 1 and2. However, before you assign a new system and/or setup password, you must move the jumperback to pins 2 and 3.NOTE: If you assign a new system and/or setup password with the jumper on pins 1 and 2, thesystem disables the new password(s) the next time it boots.5. Reconnect the system to its electrical outlet and turn on the system, including any attachedperipherals.6. Turn off the system, including any attached peripherals, and disconnect the system from theelectrical outlet.7. Remove the system cover.8. Move the jumper on the system board jumper from pins 1 and 2 to pins 2 and 3.9. Install the system cover.10. Reconnect the system to its electrical outlet and turn on the system, including any attachedperipherals.11. Assign a new system or setup password.161
