ENGLISH8This section explains how to connect speakers, recordingequipment, and antennas. For other connections, see the sections below.n Control dock for iPod (vpage 16)n USB memory device (vpage 16)n iPod (vpage 16)NOTE• Do not plug in the power cord until all connections have beencompleted.• When making connections, also refer to the owner’s manual of theother components.• Be sure to connect the left and right channels properly (left with left, right with right).• Do not bundle power supply cords together with connection cables.Doing so can result in humming or noise.Basic connectionsSpeaker connectionsAudio cable (sold separately)Pin-plug cable (Black)Speaker cable(R) (L)*/ w q w qSpeaker SC-M37 (Supplied)Subwooferwith built-inamplifi erConnecting the speaker cablesCarefully check the left (L) and right (R) channels and + (red) and –(black) polarities on the speakers being connected to the unit, and besure to connect the channels and polarities correctly.1 Peel off about 10 mm of sheathingfrom the tip of the speaker cable, theneither twist the core wire tightly orapply solder to it.2 Turn the speaker terminalcounterclockwise to loosen it.3 Insert the speaker cable’s core wire toall the way into the speaker terminal.4 Turn the speaker terminal clockwiseto tighten it.NOTE• Use speakers with an impedance of 6 to 16 Ω. The protection circuitmay be activated if speakers with an impedance other than specifiedare used.• Connect the speaker cables so they do not stick out of the speakerterminals. The protection circuit may be activated if the wirestouch the rear panel or if the + and – sides touch each other (v“Protection circuit”).• Never touch the speaker terminals while the power supply isconnected. Doing so could result in electric shock.Protection circuitThe protection circuit is be activated in the following situations:• If the speaker cable wire touches the rear panel or screws or if thespeaker cable wire touches the speaker cable’s + and – sides aretouching• If the surrounding temperature is extremely high• If the inside of the amplifier gets hot to extended use at a highoutputIf this happens, unplug the power cord, then check the connectionsof the speaker cables and input cables. If the unit becomes very hot, wait for it to cool off and improve the ventilation around it. After doingthis, plug the power cord back in.If the protection circuit is activated even though there are no problemswith the ventilation around the unit or in connections, the unit maybe damaged. Turn off the power and then contact a DENON servicecenter.
