Press in control knobfor five (5) seconds (see Figure 23).Note: You may be running this heater forthe first time after hooking up to gas sup-ply. If so, the control knob may need to bepressed in for 30 seconds. This will allowair to bleed from the gas system.6. With control knob pressed in, push downand release ignitor button. This will lightpilot. The pilot is attached to the front ofburner. If needed, keep pressing ignitorbutton until pilot lights.Note: If pilot does not stay lit, refer toTroubleshooting, page 20. Also contact aqualified service person or gas supplier forrepairs. Until repairs are made, light pilotwith match. To light pilot with match, seeManual Lighting Procedure.7. Keep control knob pressed in for 30 secondsafter lighting pilot. After 30 seconds, releasecontrol knob.• If control knob does not pop up whenreleased, contact a qualified service personor gas supplier for repairs.Note: If pilot goes out, repeat steps 3 through 7.This heater has a safety interlock system. Waitone (1) minute before lighting pilot again.8. Turn control knob counterclockwiseto desired heating level. The mainburner should light. Turn off all electric power to the applianceif service is to be performed.Shutting Off Burner Only (pilot stays lit)Turn control knob clockwise to thePILOT position.THERMOSTAT CONTROLOPERATIONThe thermostatic control used on this heaterdiffers from standard thermostats. Standardthermostats simply turn on and off the burner.The thermostat used on this heater senses theroom temperature. The thermostat adjusts theamount of gas flow to the burner. This increasesor decreases the burner flame height. At timesthe room may exceed the set temperature. If so,the burner will shut off. The burner will cycleback on when room temperature drops belowthe set temperature.The control knob can be set to any heat levelbetween HI and LO.Note: The thermostat sensing bulb measuresthe temperature of air near the heater cabinet.This may not always agree with room tem-perature (depending on housing construction,installation location, room size, open air tem-peratures, etc.). Frequent use of your heater willlet you determine your own comfort levels.MANUAL LIGHTINGPROCEDURE1. Remove front panel (see Figure 2, page 5).2. Follow steps 1 through 5 under LightingInstructions, page 16.3. With control knob pressed in, strike match.Hold match to pilot until pilot lights.4.
