COMMUNICATIONEATON Power Xpert 9395 UPS (1000–1100 kVA) Installation and Operation Manual 164201764 Rev 3 www.eaton.com/powerquality 8-3The eNotify Service relies on a ConnectUPS-X Web/SNMP Card (or Power Xpert card)installed with the UPS sending one-way status and event e-mails to Eaton RemoteMonitoring servers that analyze and store the data. Those servers also take theappropriate actions of sending notifications and reports. The ConnectUPS Cardgathers information from the UPS directly and from any external sensors that areattached. The card also records all events that are generated by the UPS. This data isstored within the non-volatile memory logs on the ConnectUPS Card. The eNotify Service runs on common protocols and transport mechanisms, makingthe connectivity between the Power Xpert 9395 UPS and the Eaton RemoteMonitoring servers easy to set up. By using common e-mail transport mechanism, you do not have to open your network to proprietary or potentially unsecure protocolsand transports.8.3 Eaton LanSafe Power Management SoftwareEach Power Xpert 9395 UPS ships with LanSafe Power Management Software. Toinstall the Eaton LanSafe software, see the instructions accompanying the SoftwareSuite CD.Eaton LanSafe software uses an RS-232 serial link to communicate with the UPS. Thesoftware provides up-to-date graphics of UPS power and system data and powerflow, a complete record of critical power events, and notification of important UPS orpower information. With custom views for monitoring status and meteringinformation, various user groups can select the most useful view for their specificneeds.8.4 Remote NotificationFor connection and setup of a modem, or to enable Remote Notify and Call Homefeatures within the UPS, contact an Eaton service representative (see page 1-9).Remote Notification allows the UPS to use a standard off‐the‐shelf PC modem as atelephone interface. The features provided by this option are: Call to a remote terminal or pager based on programmable events and alarms Four separate, programmable notification groups (phone numbers) Automatic answering (user-configurable) for access to the Terminal mode ofthe UPS Remote and local ability to clear Call Out alarms and events Error detection and correction for misconfigured and disconnected modems.Remote Notification provides the user with the option of receiving alarms and noticesat a remote location. Using the Terminal mode, the user calls the UPS to performbasic monitoring. In the event of a UPS alarm or notice, the user is notified at theremote location. The UPS calls through the modem to the user's computer or pagerand leaves a message.Remote Notification is an extension of the Terminal mode with the additional supportalgorithms necessary to control an external modem. Connection to the UPS is madewhen a user calls the UPS on the phone. The user has exactly the same capabilitiesas if using a terminal connected directly to an RS-232 port.
