Installation Procedures2-8 560-0982-00 Rev D Apollo CNX80 Installation Manual2.5.4 C ABLING AND W IRINGWiring should be installed in accordance with AC 43.13-1B Chapter 11. For dual CNX80 installations, care should be taken to ensure separation between wires of redundant systems to reduce the possibility ofloss of navigation due to a single event. When wire separation cannot be achieved, the following issuesshould be addressed:• It should not be possible for a cable harness to be exposed to wire chafing in a manner that bothGPS units fail simultaneously;• The cable harness should not be located near flight control cables and controls, high electricalcapacity lines or fuel lines;• The cable harness should be located in a protected area of the aircraft (e.g., isolated from enginerotor burst); and• Do not route cable near high-energy sourcesRefer to the Electrical Connections in Appendix D for the appropriate wiring connections to assemble thewiring connector. Once the cable assemblies have been made, attach the cable connectors to the rearconnector plate. After installing the mounting tube, attach the assembled connector. Route the wiringbundle as appropriate. Use 22 to 24 AWG wire for all connections except for power. Use 20 AWG forpower/ground. Avoid sharp bends.2.5.5 AIR C IRCULATION AND C OOLINGThe CNX80 has internal fans for cooling. No external cooling is required. No special provisions arerequired during installation to accommodate the fans except to ensure the fan openings are not blocked.2.5.6 C OMPASS S AFE D ISTANCEAfter reconfiguring the avionics in the cockpit panel, if the CNX80 is mounted less than seven inches fromthe compass, recalibrate the compass and make the necessary changes for noting correction data.2.5.7 V IEWING ANGLEThe CNX80 shall be located such that the operator will have easy access to the controls and have adequateview of the display. The CNX80 may be adequately viewed from the primary pilot’s position when thefollowing minimums are met:Up: 60 degrees off pilot’s eye center lineDown: 35 degrees off pilot’s eye center lineRight: 60 degrees off pilot’s eye center lineLeft: 60 degrees off pilot’s eye center line2.5.8 H ELICOPTER INSTALLATIONThe CNX80 is qualified for helicopter installation – no special mounting tubes or other hardware isrequired.
