This weakening is known as “attenuation.” The radar energyweakens as it passes through areas of intense precipitation, large areas of lesserprecipitation, and distance. Issues with the radome will also attenuate the radarenergy. All these factors have an effect on the return intensity. The more energythat dissipates, the lesser the displayed intensity of the return. Accuracy of thedisplayed intensity of returns located in the shaded areas are suspect. Makemaneuvering decisions with this information in mind.
