GNS 530(A) Pilot’s Guide and Reference190-00181-00 Rev. HSECTION 16 – MESSAGES,ABBREVIATIONS, & NAV TERMS16-1SECTION 16: MESSAGES,ABBREVIATIONS, AND NAV TERMS16.1 MESSAGESThe GNS 530 uses a flashing ‘MSG’ annunciator at thebottom of the screen (directly above the MSG Key) toalert the pilot of any important information or warnings. While most messages are advisory in nature, warningmessages may require pilot intervention. When the ‘MSG’ annunciator flashes, press the MSGKey to display the message. Press the MSG Key again toreturn to the previous page. The following is a list of available messages and theirmeanings:Airspace ahead -- less than 10 minutes - TheGPS-calculated course is projected to enter aspecial use airspace within 10 minutes. Thismessage is automatically disabled within 30 nm ofan arrival airport, when an approach is loaded.Airspace near and ahead - The GPS-calculatedposition is within 2 nm of the boundary of aspecial use airspace and the course is projectedto enter the airspace within 10 minutes. Thismessage is automatically disabled within 30 nm ofan arrival airport, when an approach is loaded. All data referenced to True North - The GNS530 has not detected a NavData card in the leftdata card slot.Altitude input failure - The GNS 530 isconfigured to receive altitude serializer data(Icarus, Rosetta, or Shadin) and it is not beingreceived. Or, the data was being received, but hasbeen interrupted. If a grey code altitude inputis available, it is used instead. If the problempersists, contact a Garmin dealer and check theinstallation and installation settings. When thismessage occurs, no pilot action is required ifenough satellites are available for a 3D positionfix (provided no RAIM warnings are present). However, if only a 2D position fix is possible, thepilot should maintain the GPS altitude within1,000 feet of pressure altitude by entering thealtitude on the Position Page.Approach is not active - The approach couldnot transition to ‘active’, at 2 nm or closer tothe FAF. Verify that ‘SUSP’ DOES NOT appeardirectly above the OBS Key, indicating the autowaypoint sequencing is suspended. This messagealso appears if Receiver Autonomous IntegrityMonitoring (RAIM) has determined that sufficientGPS satellite coverage DOES NOT exist for thecurrent phase of flight (along with a ‘RAIM notavailable from FAF to MAP’ message).Approaching target altitude - The current GPS-computed altitude is within 500 feet of the finalVertical Navigation target altitude.Approaching VNAV profile - The aircraft iswithin one minute of reaching the initial VerticalNavigation descent, or climb, point.Arrival at waypoint [waypoint name] - Theaircraft is within the arrival alarm circle for theindicated waypoint. The size of the arrival alarmcircle is defined from the ‘CDI/Alarms’ menuoption on the Setup Page.
