GNS 530(A) Pilot’s Guide and Reference190-00181-00 Rev. HSECTION 3NAV PAGES3-233.8 SATELLITE STATUS PAGEThe Satellite Status Page provides a visual referenceof GPS receiver functions, including current satellitecoverage, GPS receiver status, and position accuracy. The Satellite Status Page (Figure 3-47) is helpful introubleshooting weak (or missing) signal levels due topoor satellite coverage or installation problems. As the GPS receiver locks onto satellites, a signalstrength bar appears for each satellite in view, with theappropriate satellite number (01-32) underneath eachbar. The status of satellite reception is shown as follows:• No signal strength bars - The receiver is lookingfor the satellites indicated.• Hollow signal strength bars - The receiver hasfound the satellite(s) and is collecting data.• Solid signal strength bars - The receiver hascollected the necessary data and the satellite(s) isready for use.• Checkered signal strength bars - Excludedsatellites. The sky view display (at top left corner of the page)shows which satellites are currently in view, and wherethey are. The outer circle of the sky view represents thehorizon (with north at top of the page); the inner circle45° above the horizon; and the center point directly over-head.Each satellite has a 30-second data transmission thatmust be collected (hollow signal strength bar) before thesatellite may be used for navigation (solid signal strengthbar). Once the GPS receiver has determined the presentposition, the GNS 530 indicates position, track, andground speed on the other navigation pages. The GPSreceiver status field also displays the messages listed inTable 3-4 under the appropriate conditions:Figure 3-47 Satellite Status Page51 2 31141368712914101 Sky View2 GPS Receiver Status3 Estimated Position Error (EPE), Dilution of Precision(DOP), and Horizontal Uncertainty Level (HUL)4 Signal Strength Bars5 Satellite ID Numbers6 INTEG Annunciator (flagged when position not valid)7 Hollow Signal Strength Bar8 Excluded Satellite9 Current Time10 Present Position11 Current Page Group12 Number of Pages in Current Page Group13 Position of Current Page within Current Page Group14 GPS-calculated Altitude
