TISis intended only to assist in visual acquisitionof other aircraft in Visual MeteorologicalConditions (VMC). Referto the Aeronautical Information Manual for aTerminal Mode S Radar Site Map covering theU.S.NOTE: This Section assumes the user hasexperience operating the GPS 400 unit and theGarmin GTX 330 Transponder.NOTE: TIS and Weather Data Link displays areavailable only when GPS 400 units are configuredwith the GTX 330 Mode S Transponder and a GDL49 or GDL 69(A) Data Link Satellite Receiver.10.1 TRAFFIC INFORMATION SERVICE (TIS)This section is written for:• Garmin GPS 400 Main System Software Version5.01 and later• GTX 330/330D Main Software Version 4.01 andlaterSome differences in operation may be observed whencomparing the information in this manual to earlier orlater software versions.NOTE: This section is written exclusively forGPS 400 units that are configured with the GTX330 Mode S Transponder. Refer to the 400/500Series Display Interfaces Pilot’s Guide Addendum(190-00140-10) when interfacing with non-Garmin products.TIS OperationTraffic Information Service (TIS) provides a graphicdisplay of traffic advisory information in the cockpitfor non-TCAS equipped aircraft. TIS is a ground-basedservice providing relative location of aircraft tracked byATC radar within a specified service volume. The TISground sensor uses real-time track reports to generatetraffic notification. TIS Traffic display is available toaircraft equipped with a Mode S Data Link, such as theGarmin GTX 330 Transponder. TIS traffic informationfrom a GTX 330 Transponder can then be displayed on aGPS 400 unit. Surveillance data includes aircraft trackedby ATC radar within the coverage volume. Aircraft withoutan operating transponder are invisible to TIS.
