16ReferenceThe Map Page The Map Page - OverviewThe Map Page shows your present position anddirection of movement as a triangular ‘Position Icon’, inthe center of the map. As you travel, the map displayleaves a “trail” (track log) of where you’ve been. The mapdisplay also shows the map scale and geographic detailssuch as lakes, rivers, highways, and towns.Use the ZOOM IN and OUT buttons to change themap scale in order to show more map area with lessdetail or less map area with more detail. Press and hold toZOOM the map scale rapidly.In many instances the map will display an ‘AccuracyCircle’ surrounding the ‘Position Icon’. The eTrex Legenduses both map resolution and GPS accuracy in definingyour location to a point within the circle. The smallerthe circle, the more accurate your location. For the mostaccurate location information, refer to the Satellite PageWhen using the ‘Pan Map’ feature, a small outlinearrow (Map Pointer) can be moved about the page tohighlight and identify map items or to scroll the map toview areas not shown on the display screen.A Status Field at the top of the page provides satellitetracking and location accuracy information.Two optional Data fields at the bottom of the pagecan be programmed to provide a variety of travel andnavigation information.More detailed map features as well as informationabout those features can be downloaded to the unit froma GARMIN MapSource CD-ROM.
