January 2017 Service and Repair ManualAxle ComponentsPart No. 1268556 119How to C alibr ate the Steer Sens orsHow to Calibrate the SteerSensorsIf a steer sensor reaches the limit of travel before atire is adjusted parallel to the chassis, the steersensor must be calibrated. This procedure willre-establish a center position on the steer sensor.Note: Perform this procedure with the machine inthe stowed position.Note: This procedure will require two people.Note: Use the following chart to identify thedescription of each LCD screen control button usedin this procedure.Plus Minus Previous Enter1 Start the engine from the platform controls.2 Press down the foot switch.3 Choose a steer mode based on the tire thatneeds alignment.Note: If a circle-end tire cannot be aligned, pressthe square-end steer mode button. If a square-endtire cannot be aligned, press the circle-end steermode button.4 Loosen the steer sensor cover retainingfasteners. Do not remove them.5 Rotate the steer sensor cover either clockwiseor counterclockwise to bring the tire as close toalignment as possible.6 Turn off the engine.7 Press and hold the enter button on the groundcontrol panel while pulling out the groundcontrols red Emergency Stop button to the onposition. Hold the enter button forapproximately 5 seconds and then release it.8 Enter sensor calibration mode by pressing thebuttons at the ground controls in the followingsequence: (plus)(enter)(enter)(plus).9 Use the previous button to scroll through themenu until the appropriate steer sensor isdisplayed. Choose from:RESET BLUE END BLUE SIDE STEERSENSORRESET YELLOW END BLUE SIDE STEERSENSORRESET YELLOW END YELLOW SIDESTEER SENSORRESET BLUE END YELLOW SIDE STEERSENSORPress the plus button to select YES, thenpress the enter button.10 Exit the sensor calibration mode and turn thekeyswitch to the off position.11 Rotate the steer sensor to the opposite limit oftravel.12 Using a voltmeter set to DC voltage, probe theback of the steer sensor electrical connector atpins B and C.13 Turn the keyswitch on at the ground controls.Rotate the sensor slowly until the voltagereading is between 2.4 to 2.5V DC. The alarmat the ground control box should sound.14 Turn the keyswitch to platform controls. Startthe engine from the platform controls.15 Press down the foot switch.16 Rotate the steer sensor cover to adjust the tirealignment. Measure the distance between theinside of the tire and the chassis side plate onboth sides of the axle.17 Repeat step 14 until the tire is parallel with thechassis.18 Tighten the steer sensor cover fasteners.
