September 2016 Service and Repair ManualBoom ComponentsPart No. 1268556 558 Tag and disconnect the electrical cables fromthe turntable.9 Remove the hose protector bracket.10 Working at the platform end, place blocksunder the barrel end of the secondary boomextension cylinder for support.11 Remove the barrel-end retaining fasteners.12 Using a suitable lifting device, lift the extensioncylinder to clear the saddle blocks13 Attach a lifting strap from an overhead crane tothe secondary extension boom assembly.14 Slide the secondary extension boom assemblyout of the secondary boom tube approximatelytwo feet and remove the wear pads from thesecondary boom tube.15 Support and slide the extension boomassembly out of the secondary boom tube andplace it on a structure capable of supporting it.Crushing hazard. The extensionboom tube could becomeunbalanced and fall if notproperly supported whenremoved from the primary boomtube.Note: During removal, the overhead crane strap willneed to be adjusted for proper balancing.16 To remove the secondary boom extensioncylinder, Refer to Repair Procedure, How toRemove the Secondary Boom ExtensionCylinder.4-8Secondary Boom Lift CylinderHow to Remove the SecondaryBoom Lift CylinderBodily injury hazard. Thisprocedure requires specific repairskills, lifting equipment and asuitable workshop. Attemptingthis procedure without these skillsand tools could result in death orserious injury and significantcomponent damage. Dealerservice is strongly recommended.Note: When removing a hose assembly or fitting,the O-ring (if equipped) on the fitting and/or hoseend must be replaced. All connections must betorqued to specification during installation. Refer toSpecifications, Hydraulic Hose and Fitting TorqueSpecifications.Note: Perform this procedure with the boom in thestowed position.1 Tag, disconnect, secure and remove thebattery cables connecting the batteries.Remove battery fasteners and hooks frombattery tray. Remove the batteries and storethem in a safe and secure location away fromthe machine.Electrocution/burn hazard.Contact with electrically chargedcircuits could result in death orserious injury. Remove all rings,watches and other jewelry.2 Remove the retaining fasteners securing theupper and lower turntable covers from theturntable at the platform end. Remove thecovers.
