Skx Owner’s Manual4 IMPORTANT - PLEASE READ Power Supply Do not use this unit on the same power circuit with anydevice that will generate line noise (such as an electric mo-tor or light dimming system). Th e AC adaptor will begin to generate heat after long hoursof consecutive use. This is normal, and is not a cause forconcern. Before connecting this unit to other devices, turn off thepower to all units. This will help prevent malfunctions and/or damage to speakers or other devices. Placement Using the unit near power amplifiers (or other equipmentcontaining large power transformers) may induce hum. Toalleviate the problem, change the orientation of this unit, ormove it farther away from the source of interference. This device may interfere with radio and television recep-tion. Do not use this device in the vicinity of such receivers. Noise may be produced if wireless communications devices, such as cell phones, are operated in the vicinity of this unit.Such noise could occur when receiving or initiating a call,or while conversing. Should you experience such problems, you should relocate such wireless devices so they are at agreater distance from this unit, or switch them off. Do not expose the unit to direct sunlight, place it neardevices that radiate heat, leave it inside an enclosed vehicle,or otherwise subject it to temperature extremes. Also, donot allow lighting devices that normally are used whiletheir light source is very close to the unit (such as a pianolight), or powerful spotlights to shine upon the same areaof the unit for extended periods of time. Excessive heat candeform or discolor the unit. When moved from one location to another where the tem-perature and/or humidity is very different, water droplets(condensation) may form inside the unit. Damage or mal-function may result if you attempt to use the unit in thiscondition. Therefore, before using the unit, you must allowit to stand for several hours, until the condensation hascompletely evaporated. Do not allow rubber, vinyl, or similar materials to remainon the unit for long periods of time. Such objects can dis-color or otherwise harmfully affect the fi nish. Do not paste stickers, decals, or the like on the SKX. Peel-ing such matter off the SKX may damage the exterior fin-ish. Maintenance To clean the unit, use a dry, soft cloth; or one that is slightlydampened. To remove stubborn dirt off plastic parts, use a cloth im-pregnated with a mild, non-abrasive detergent. Afterwards,be sure to wipe the unit thoroughly with a soft, dry cloth.Try to wipe the entire surface using an equal amount ofstrength, moving the cloth along with the grain of thewood. Rubbing too hard in the same area can damage thefi nish. Never use benzine, thinners, alcohol or solvents of anykind, to avoid the possibility of discoloration and/or defor-mation. Additional Precautions Please be aware that the contents of memory can be irre-trievably lost as a result of a malfunction, or the improperoperation of the unit. To protect yourself against the risk oflosing important data, we recommend that you periodicallysave a backup copy of important data you have stored in theunit’s memory in another MIDI device (to another storagemedium (such as a USB Flash Drive or an external harddrive). Unfortunately, it may be impossible to restore the contentsof data once it has been lost. Hammond assumes no liabil-ity concerning such loss of data. Use a reasonable amount of care when using the unit’s but-tons, sliders, or other controls, and when using its jacks andconnectors. Rough handling can lead to malfunctions. When connecting / disconnecting all cables, grasp the con-nector itself - never pull on the cable. This will avoid caus-ing short circuits, or damage to the cable’s internal ele-ments. To avoid disturbing your neighbors, try to keep the unit'svolume at reasonable levels. You may prefer to use head-phones, so you do not need to be concerned about thosearound you (especially when it is late at night). When you need to transport the unit, package it in the box(including padding) that it came in, if possible. Otherwise, you will need to use equivalent packaging materials.
