See the AdvancedFeatures section later in this manual forinformation on delay settings.The remaining item to be adjusted beforenormal use of the AVR75 is adjustmentof the output levels. Correct adjustmentof these settings is critical to proper oper-ation of the receiver in all surroundmodes, and particularly when DolbyDigital sources are being played.1. To set the output levels press theSelect button j to call up the mainmenu (see figure #1)if it is not alreadyon the screen, and then press the the ¤button i until the on-screen cursor ispointing to TEST TONE. Press Selectj to move to the TEST TONE menu.2. When you press Select you willimmediately hear a test noise from thefront left speaker. The on-screen displaywill change to a graphic representationof each of the speakers in your room,with one speaker position blinking (seefigure #5). That speaker is the one whoselevel is being set.NOTE: This procedure will only operateif the AVR75 is in the PRO LOGIC, AC-3, MOVIE or DOLBY 3 STEREOmodes. If the test tone cannot be selected,check to see which surround mode isindicated in the front panel display. If it isnot one of the modes mentioned above,select one of the correct modes using theMode Selectors y, and then movethe cursor to TEST TONE to restart theprocedure.3. While seated in the primary listeningposition, you should hear a test noisesignal from the left front speaker. Youmay leave the volume setting where it is,or raise it to an appropriate level usingthe Speaker ⁄ or ¤ buttons non the remote. For a more precise cali-bration, we recommend that you use asound pressure level meter.4. Press the › or CH Select buttoni m on the remote. Note that thesound should now come from the CenterChannel speaker if one is installed, andthe icon for that speaker will flash onthe screen. Use the Speaker ⁄ or ¤buttons n on the remote to change thelevel of the test noise so that it appears tobe equal in level to the Front Left speaker.5. Press the › or Ch Select buttoni m again, and repeat the procedurefor the Front Right, Surround Right andSurround Left channels. Each time, usethe Speaker ⁄ or ¤ buttons n onthe remote to change the volume levelso that all speakers match, and the ›button i to move to the next channel.NOTE: This test also serves as an oppor-tunity to verify that all speakers areproperly connected. If the sound from aspeaker location does not match thelocation shown on the video and frontpanel displays, turn the AVR75 off andcheck the speaker wiring to make certainthat the speaker is connected to thecorrect output terminals.6. When all speakers appear to have anequal volume, press the ‹ button ion the remote and then Select j tocomplete the procedure.NOTE: You may also check the outputlevels at any time by pressing the TestTone button l. When the on-screendisplay is also activated by pressing OSDk, you will see the speaker icons andlevel information superimposed on yourvideo screen. Follow the instructions insteps 1 through 6 above to calibrate thesystem, and press the Test Tone buttonl again to cancel the test.CONGRATULATIONS! You have com-pleted a basic setup and you are nowready to enjoy the finest in home theaterand music listening enjoyment.20
