DSP processing system is used for the first timefor any input, the speaker settings will auto-matically default to “Small” at all positionswith the subwoofer set to “LFE.” The defaultsetting for the surround modes is “SurroundOff,” or two-channel stereo, although DolbyDigital or DTS will automatically be selected asappropriate when a source with digital encod-ing is in use. Before using the unit, you will probably want tochange the settings for most inputs so that theyare properly configured to reflect the use ofdigital or analog inputs, the type of speakersinstalled and the surround mode specifics ofyour home theater system. Remember thatsince the AVR 8000 memorizes the settings foreach input individually, you will need to makethese adjustments for each input used. However, once they are made, further adjust-ment is only required when system componentsare changed. To make this process as quick and as easy aspossible, we suggest that you use the full-OSDsystem with the on-screen menus, and stepthrough each input. Once you have completedthe settings for the first input, many settingsmay be duplicated for the remaining inputs. It isalso a good idea to set the configuration datain the order these items are listed in theMASTER MENU, as some settings require aspecific entry in a prior menu item. Rememberthat once the settings are made for one input, they must be made for all other input sourcesin your system.Input SetupThe first step in configuring the AVR 8000 is toconfigure each input. Note that the once aninput is selected, all settings for the DigitalInput, Speaker Configuration, Surround Modeand Delay Timing will “attach” themselves tothat input and be stored in a non-volatile mem-ory. This means that once made, the selection ofan input will automatically recall those settings. For that reason, the procedures describedbelow must be repeated for each input sourceso that you have the opportunity to custom tai-lor each source to your specific listeningrequirements. However, once made they neednot be changed again unless you need to altera setting. When using the full-OSD system to make thesetup adjustments, press the OSD Button vonce so that the MASTER MENU (Figure 1)appears.
