Installation, Set Up & ConfigurationExternal Audio Power AmplifierConnectionsUsing the PRE OUT jacks ñ, connec-tions may be made to external poweramplifiers. To make these connections, remove the jumpers between PRE-OUTand MAIN IN, and save them for futureuse. Connect the PRE-OUT of the chan-nels to be connected to external ampli-fiers to that amplifier’s inputs. Volumewill still be controlled by this receiver. When an external amplifier is used forthe front channels, this receiver’s rearchannel outputs and a passive (non-powered) subwoofer may be connected tothis unit’s internal amplifier for higherpower output. To make these connec-tions, follow the diagrams on this page.Using short RCA to RCA jumpers, connectthe left and right SURR PRE-OUTjacks to the left and right FRONT MAININ jacks. A subwoofer may be connectedby connecting the SUBWOOFER PREOUT to the CENTER MAIN IN.If these connections are used, changesmust be made to the speaker outputs.Connect the left and right surroundspeakers to the speaker terminals labeledFRONT ˙î and the passive sub-woofer to the speaker terminals labeledCENTER ∆.NOTE: When external power amplifiersare used, the center channel speakersshould receive at least as much amplifierpower as the front left and right speakers.AC Power ConnectionsThis unit is equipped with two accessoryAC outlets. They may be used to poweraccessory devices, but they should not beused with high current draw equipmentsuch as power amplifiers. The SWITCHED † outlet will receivepower only when the unit is on. This isrecommended for devices that have nopower switch, or a mechanical powerswitch that may be left in the “ON”position. The UNSWITCHED ü outlet willreceive power as long as the unit isplugged into a powered AC outlet. Finally, when all connections are com-plete, plug the power cord into a non-switched 120 volt AC wall outlet. Notethat the ring surrounding the PowerSwitch ( will turn amber.
