Memory BackupThis product is equipped with a memorybackup system that preserves tuner pre-sets and system configuration informa-tion if the unit is accidentally unpluggedor subject to a power outage. This mem-ory will last for approximately one week,after which time all information must bere-entered.System ResetIn the rare case where the unit’s opera-tion or the displays seem abnormal, thecause may involve the erratic operation ofthe system’s memory or microprocessor.To correct this problem, first unplug theunit from the AC wall outlet and wait atleast three minutes. After the pause,reconnect the AC power cord and checkthe unit’s operation. If the system stillmalfunctions, a system reset may clearthe problem.To clear the entire system memory of theunit, press and hold the MEMO Ú andCLEAR Û buttons until CLEAR MEMOappears in the front panel display.Release the buttons and note that theunit will turn off. Remember that onceyou have cleared the memory in thisfashion it will be necessary to re-establishall system configuration informationand tuner presets.If the system is still operating incorrectly,there may have been an electrostatic dis-charge or severe AC line interference thathas corrupted the memory or micro-processor.If a reset does not solve the problem, con-sult an authorized Harman Kardon ser-vice depot.Multiroom OperationThe MULTI indicator on the front paneldisplay ‚ will flash to indicate that themultiroom system is turned on in thevariable mode, and that Source Linkingis in effect. With Source Link, any changeto the AVR80II’s input selection will alsochange the feed to the remote room loca-tions. If the input source is changed fromthe remote room, the MULTI indicatorwill remain lit, but stop flashing.If the AVR80II is turned off in the mainlistening room, the feed to the remoteroom will continue, although theMULTI indicator will now remain con-stantly illuminated.To turn off the feed to the remote roomeither while the AVR80II is still on, orafter it is turned off, press the MULTIbutton on the front panel. If the MULTIbutton is pressed while the AVR80II isstill on and the on screen video system isengaged, a warning message will appearon the video display (Figure #18) toremind you that people may still be lis-tening to the system in the remote roomlocation.Remote Room OperationIn this option, the remote room feed iscontrolled by the use of an AVR80II com-patible remote control. The remote com-mands must be transmitted to theAVR80II via a coaxial link connected tothe MULTI input on the AVR80II’s rearpanel.Using the remote control in the secondroom press the POWER ON button toturn on the remote room feed. This willactivate the multi room portion of theAVR80II whether or not it may be on inthe main listening room.The initial feed to the remote room willbe the last station selected by the tuner.Any other AVR80II input source may sub-sequently be selected using the sourcebuttons on the remote control.The initial volume at the remote roomwill be the level established using theoptions in SET UP MENU 2.If IR connections have been made to thesource playback equipment, it is alsopossible to control the functions of thoseunits via the second room remote.Consult with your dealer or custominstaller for additional information onthis type of installation.When the remote room is controlling theAVR80II via the IR link, the MULTIindicator on the AVR80II’s front panelwill remain constantly lit.NOTE: Whenever the AVR80II is in amultiroom mode, the MULTI indicatorwill flash briefly whenever a command istransmitted by the remote room locationand received by the AVR80II.35
