OperationWhile the disc is playing, the track beingplayed will show both as a large numberin the middle of the display and as asmaller, flashing number at the bottomof the display. The elapsed time of thetrack being played will also appear in thedisplay. As a disc plays, the track num-bers will change, and the time will resetto at the start of each new track.To momentarily pause the play of a disc,press the Pause button 6 l. Notethat a Pause indication ± will appear inthe display to remind you that the disc ispaused. Press either the Play button 4j or the Pause button 6 l toresume normal play.To stop the disc, press the Stop/Clearbutton 5 k. When the Stop button ispressed the display again will show thetotal number of tracks and total runningtime of the disc.To remove a disc from the player, pressthe Open/Close button &. To preventdirt and dust from entering the unit, donot leave the disc tray open.To place the unit in a Standby mode,press the Power Off button a onthe remote. The Status ModeIndicator 2 will glow amber, indicat-ing that the unit is off, but ready toaccept a Power On command from theremote. If the disc drawer is open, it willautomatically close when the unit isplaced in the Standby mode. This ensuresthat the unit will not be harmed fromdust, dirt or inadvertent damage to thedrawer mechanism.Note that the unit is not removed fromAC main power when it is in the Standbymode. During long periods of inactivity,it is recommended that the Main PowerSwitch 1 be used to turn the unit off.The Status Mode indicator will not be litwhen the unit is totally turned off.Remember to turn the unit back on withthe Main Power Switch 1 in order touse the remote control.Disc-Handling NotesWhen loading or unloading discs, it isbest to hold them by the edges.While Compact Discs are very reliable,rough handling may damage them. Avoidscratching the bottom (non-printed) sideof discs, or any handling which will leavefingerprints.To avoid damage to the disc and player,always seat discs so that they are centeredin the tray.Do not lift the player while the disc trayis opening or closing, as this may causethe disc to unseat from the tray andpossibly jam.Headphone ListeningYou may listen to the output of theHD720 through headphones by plugginga set of standard headphones with a 1⁄ 4"headphone plug into the front panelHeadphones Jack ^. The volume ofthe headphone output may be adjustedwith the Headphones Level knob%. Note that changing the headphonelevel will not change the volume for themain audio output. This is a fixed out-put, and it is changed using the volumecontrol on your receiver, preamplifier orsurround processor.Display DimIn some instances, it may be desirable toreduce the brightness of the display or toturn it off completely. To do this, pressthe Display button 9 q once to dimthe display to half brightness. Press itagain to turn the display off. A third presswill return the display to normal level.Time DisplayThe HD720’s time display is capable ofshowing a wide range of informationabout a CD.In normal operation the display willshow the total running time of a CD afterthe disc is first put in the unit. When thedisc is played, the display will show therunning time of a track in play. Eachtime the track changes, the time displaywill reset to and begin toincrease again as the disc plays.To view the time remaining on an indi-vidual track, press the Time button )n once. The display will now show thetime left in the track in play, and theREMAIN indicator will light next to thetime display as a reminder of the dis-play’s status.To view the total time remaining to playon the disc, press the time button twice.The REMAIN and TOTAL indicators willlight to remind you of the function inuse.NOTE: When a disc contains more thanthirty (30) tracks, the time display mayread “– – : – –”. This is normal andit does not indicate any problem with thedisc or the HD720.11
