The MediaDirector 2252B,2252B-DS, and 2251B integrates file system, system management, communication, and all connectivityincluding Serial-attached SCSI (SAS) connections and Gigabit Ethernet.• About the MediaDirector 2252B, 2252B-DS, and 2251B• MediaDirector bezel• MediaDirector status LEDs• MediaDirector 2252B and 2252B-DS rear panel• MediaDirector 2251B rear panel• MediaDirector specificationsAbout the MediaDirector 2252B, 2252B-DS, and 2251BThe MediaDirector is the core of the Spectrum system, actively managing the flow of data to and fromother Spectrum components, including the MediaStore 5000 series storage arrays and real-time I/Omodules such as MediaPort 7000, ChannelPort, and Spectrum X.The MediaDirector 2252B includes 12 connections for I/O modules, as well as 10 Gb Ethernet ports forfile transfers, SAS connections for storage, and EFS connections.The MediaDirector 2252B-DS includes 18 connections for I/O modules, as well as 10 Gb Ethernet portsfor file transfers, four SAS connections for storage, and support a four-MediaDirector EFS configuration.The MediaDirector 2251B includes 6 connections for I/0 modules.The Gigabit Ethernet connectivity is a standard implementation of high speed Ethernet for non-real timeasynchronous file transfer and support of FTP, Samba, and AFP (Apple® Filing Protocol) protocols.CAUTION: MediaDirectors run on a non-standard Linux operating system. Do not editfiles manually, or run Linux-type commands via the shell unless instructed to do so byTechnical Support, or the product documentation. Be aware that If you manually edit files,any changes made may be overwritten when daemons restart, the system reboots, orduring system upgrades.
