See the instructions that were providedwith the new drive.2. Install the new drive and connect the new drive to the spare connector on thecable attached to the primary IDE connector (labelled J4 on the systemboard, if the machine type of your system is 2196; labelled J11 on the systemboard, if the machine type of your system is 2197 or 6344).If you are installing a second drive to the secondary IDE connector, follow theseguidelines:1. Replace the IDE signal cable attached to the secondary IDE connector(labelled J5 on the system board, if the machine type of your system is 2196;labelled J12 on the system board, if the machine type of your system is 2197or 6344) with an IDE cable that has two drive connectors.2. Set the jumper on the new drive to master or slave, depending on thefollowing conditions:– If the factory-installed drive is a CD-ROM drive (or any drive type otherthan a hard disk drive), and the drive you are installing is a hard disk drive,set the new drive as the master device. Then, set the factory-installed driveas a slave device. Jumpers for setting drives as master or slave devicesare typically located at the back of the drive.– If the factory-installed drive is a hard disk drive, set the new drive as aslave drive.3. Install the new drive.
