Removing the system board and shuttleThis section contains instructions for removing and replacing the system board andshuttle.Note:v Read “Installation guidelines” on page 11.v Read the safety notices at Appendix B, “Safety information,” on page 117.v Read “Handling static-sensitive devices” on page 13.Complete the following steps to remove the system board and shuttle:1. Turn off the server and any attached devices.Note: When replacing the system board, you must either update the serverwith the latest firmware or restore the pre-existing firmware that the customerprovides on a diskette or CD image.2. Disconnect external cables and option cables from the back of the server.3. Remove the cover (see “Removing the cover” on page 16).4. Remove the air baffle (see “Removing the air baffle” on page 17.5. Remove the fan bracket (see “Fan bracket” on page 48).6. Disconnect and remove the PCI low-profile-card assembly and PCI riser-cardassembly (see “Working with adapters” on page 18).7. Disconnect all cables from the system board.8. Remove all microprocessors and VRMs, and set them aside on astatic-protected surface for reinstallation (see “Installing a microprocessor” onpage 30).9. Remove the memory modules, and set them aside on a static-protectedsurface for reinstallation (see “Installing memory modules” on page 27).10. Remove the power cage assembly (see “Power cage assembly” on page 49).11.
