Removing and replacing consumable parts and Tier 1 CRUsReplacement of consumable parts and Tier 1 CRUs is your responsibility. If IBMinstalls a consumable part or Tier 1 CRU at your request, you will be charged forthe installation.Note: The illustrations in this document might differ slightly from your hardware.Removing the coverTo remove the server cover, complete the following steps:1. Read the safety information that begins on page vii and “Installation guidelines”on page 167.2. Turn off the server and peripheral devices and disconnect the power cords andall external cables, if necessary.Note: When you disconnect the power source from the server, you lose theability to view the LEDs because the LEDs are not lit when the power source isremoved. Before you disconnect the power source, make a note of which LEDsare lit, including the LEDs that are lit on the operation information panel, on thelight path diagnostics panel, and LEDs inside the server on the system board;then, see “Light path diagnostics LEDs” on page 104 for information on how tosolve the problem.TabCover3. If the server has been installed in a rack, slide the server out from the rackenclosure.4. Press down firmly on the blue tab on the top (near the front of the server) of thecover and slide the cover toward the rear of the server until the cover hasdisengaged from the chassis.5. Lift the server cover off the server and set it aside.Attention: For proper cooling and airflow, replace the server cover before youturn on the server.Installing the coverTo install the server cover, complete the following steps:1.
