Replacing the system batteryThe following notes describe information that you must consider when replacingthe system battery in the server.About this taskv When replacing the system battery, you must replace it with a lithium battery ofthe same type from the same manufacturer.v To order replacement batteries, call 1-800-426-7378 within the United States, and1-800-465-7999 or 1-800-465-6666 within Canada. Outside the U.S. and Canada,call your IBM sales representative or IBM reseller.v After you replace the system-board battery, you must reconfigure the server andreset the system date and time.v To avoid possible danger, read and follow the following safety statement.Statement 2CAUTION:When replacing the lithium battery, use only IBM Part Number 33F8354 or anequivalent type battery recommended by the manufacturer. If your system has amodule containing a lithium battery, replace it only with the same module typemade by the same manufacturer. The battery contains lithium and can explode ifnot properly used, handled, or disposed of.Do not:v Throw or immerse into waterv Heat to more than 100°C (212°F)v Repair or disassembleDispose of the battery as required by local ordinances or regulations.To install the replacement system battery, complete the following steps:Procedure1. Follow any special handling and installation instructions that come with thereplacement battery.2. Read the safety information that begins on “Safety” on page vii and“Installation guidelines” on page 283.3. Turn off the server and peripheral devices and disconnect the power cordsand all external cables, if necessary.4. Remove the top cover (see “Removing the top cover” on page 146).5.
