To order a 8x 3.5-inch hot-swap HDDassembly kit, contact your IBM sales representative or IBM reseller.The 8x 3.5-inch simple-swap HDD ServeRAID assembly kit contains the followingcomponents:v One simple-swap backplate assembly, which contains two cables attached to thebackplate assemblyTo install a 8x 3.5-inch hot-swap HDD assembly kit, complete the following steps:Procedure1. Read the safety information that begins on “Safety” on page vii and“Installation guidelines” on page 283.2. Turn off the server and peripheral devices and disconnect the power cordsand all external cables, if necessary.3. Remove the cover (see “Removing the top cover” on page 146).4. Pull the hard disk drives or fillers out of the server slightly to disengage themfrom the backplates. For more information, see “Removing a simple-swaphard disk drive” on page 157).5. To obtain more working room, remove the fan cage (see “Removing the fancage assembly” on page 172).6. Remove the 3.5-inch backplate assembly/backplane. See “Removing the3.5-inch simple-swap backplate assembly/hot-swap hard disk drivebackplane” on page 2357. ▌1▐Insert the backplate assembly/backplane tabs into slots on the bottom ofthe drive cage at an angle; then, rotate the backplate assembly/backplanetoward the front the server8. ▌2▐Pull the two plungers while you ▌3▐push the backplate assembly to the leftto engage the assembly into place.Chapter 5.
