100 IBM System x3850 X6 and x3950 X6 Planning and Implementation Guide3.20 Integrated virtualizationThe X6 servers support VMware ESXi installed on a USB memory key. The key is installed ina USB port that is located on the Primary I/O Book. Figure 3-36 shows the location of theUSB port for the embedded hypervisor on the Primary I/O Book system board.Figure 3-36 Internal USB port location for embedded hypervisor (view from above)Table 3-25 lists the virtualization options.Table 3-25 Virtualization optionsFor more information about using the embedded hypervisor, see 6.4, “Use of embeddedVMware ESXi” on page 195.3.21 Hot-swap capabilitiesThe X6 servers follow the standard color coding scheme used by IBM for touch points andhot-swap components.Hot-swap components have orange handles or touch points. Orange tabs are found on fanmodules, power supplies, additional I/O Books, and disk drives. The orange designates thatthe items are hot-swap, and can be both removed and replaced while the chassis is powered.Touch points that are blue cannot be hot-swapped; the server must be powered off beforeremoving these devices. Blue touch points can be found on components such as ComputeBooks, Primary I/O Book, and Storage Book.PartnumberFeaturecodeDescription Maximumsupportedaa. Two hypervisor keys are supported only with the x3950 X6 and only if the x3950 X6 isconfigured to be partitioned, where the two halves of the server operate as two independentfour-socket servers. CTO orders, however, can include only one hypervisor key.41Y8298 A2G0 IBM Blank USB Memory Key for VMware ESXi Downloads 1 / 241Y8382 A4WZ IBM USB Memory Key for VMware ESXi 5.1 U1 1 / 2Internal USB portfor embeddedhypervisor
