16Previous view■ Weather channel operationThere are 10 weather channels for monitor-ing weather broadcasts from NOAA (NationalOceanic and Atmospheric Administration).D Weather channel selectionq Push [VFO/MR/CALL] several times to select theweather channel mode.w Push [Y] or [Z] to select the desired weather chan-nel.e Push [VFO/MR/CALL] to return to the VFO, memoryor Call channel mode.D Weather Alert functionNOAA broadcast stations transmit weather alert tonesbefore important weather announcements. When theWeather Alert function is turned ON, the transceiverchecks the selected weather channel every 5 seconds.for an announcement. When the alert signal is detected,the “AL.T” and the WX channel are displayed alternate-ly and a beep tone sounds until the transceiver is oper-ated. The selected (used) weather channel is checkedperiodically while in standby, or while scanning.q Select the desired weather channel.(See the above topic.)w Push [FUNC](M), and then push [SET](8) to enterthe Set mode.e Push [Y] or [Z] to select the weather alert item(ALt).r Rotate [VOL] to select “ON,” to turn ON the WeatherAlert function.t Push [# ENT] to exit the Set mode.y Set the desired stand-by mode.• Select the VFO, memory channel or Call channel.• Scan or priority watch operation can be also selected.u When the alert is detected, a beep sounds and “ALt”and the weather channel number is alternately dis-played.i Turn OFF the Weather Alert function in the Setmode.NOTE: While receiving a signal on a frequency otherthan the weather channel, the receiving audio will bemomentarily interrupted approximately every 5 sec-onds, when the Alert function is turned ON. This iscaused by the Weather Alert function. To cancel theseinterruptions, turn OFF the Weather Alert function inthe Set mode.Push [FUNC](M), and then push [SCAN](5) to starta weather channel scan.
