The ground wire mustbe solidly connected to a majorsheet-metal structure of thevehicle. Usually the power sup-ply ground wire can be con-nected to a sheet metal panelnear the amp mounting loca-tion. Scrape all paint andprimer off the sheet metal atthe grounding point to ensure agood electrical connection.Attach the wire to the ground-ing point with a sheet-metalscrew and lock washer (prefer-ably a star lock washer) or abolt/lock washer/nut set.• In some vehicles, such as thosethat have non-metal bodies, itmay be necessary to extend thepower supply ground wire andconnect it to a frame rail oreven directly to the negative (–)terminal of the battery. Useheat- and oil-resistant 10 gaugeor larger stranded copper auto-motive wire and crimp or sol-der and insulate the wire-to-wire connections. Keep theextension wire as short as possi-ble. Solder or crimp a terminalon the end of the extension wireand connect it to the frame orbattery terminal.
