6 Setting up Antenna TVIn addition to the other entertainment possibilities of your RokuTV, you may also want to watch broadcast channels from anantenna or cable TV service connected to the ANT input. On yourRoku TV, you watch broadcast TV in much the same way you watchother entertainment choices. You select a tile—in this case, theAntenna TV tile—from the Home screen.The first time you select the Antenna TV tile, you have to set upthe TV tuner. Setting up the TV tuner scans for active channelsand adds them to your Antenna TV channel list.Why do I have to set up the TV tuner?Not everyone needs to use the TV tuner. For example, you mighthave a set top box provided by a cable or satellite company thatreceives all of your channels. Most of these set top boxes use anHDMIR connection.More and more people are watching only streaming TV and do nothave a TV antenna or cable/satellite service. If you don’t need theTV tuner, you can bypass setting it up and instead remove it fromthe Home screen as explained in Remove unwanted tiles Lp. 45.When you set up Antenna TV, the TV scans the signals on itsantenna input for channels with a good signal, and adds those tothe channel list, skipping dead channels and channels with a veryweak signal.The TV lets you add two analog channels, even if they have nosignal, for the purpose of using an older set top box, VCR, or gameconsole that can only output a signal on analog channel 3 or 4.Typically, you’ll only need one of these channels, but both areprovided to make setup simpler. You can hide the one you don’twant as explained in Edit Antenna TV channel lineup L p. 46.How do I set up the TV tuner?1 Make sure your antenna (not provided) or TV cable isconnected to the TV’s ANT/CABLE input.2 On the Home screen, select the Antenna TV tile.3 Read the simple on-screen instructions, and then select Startfinding channels.4 If prompted, select your time zone. You’ll only need to do thisif the TV can’t figure out your time zone from your Internetconnection.Why does the TV need my time zone?The TV needs to know your time zone so that it can correctlydisplay time information about the program you are currentlywatching.5 When prompted, select whether to add analog channels 3and 4. These channels enable you to connect older set topboxes, VCRs, or game consoles.6 Wait while your TV scans for Antenna TV stations…… and then cable TV channels.23 .English |
