The guard is spring loaded so it returns to its originalposition when the cut is completed and the handle is raised.WARNING: Never defeat or remove the bladeguard or the spring which attaches to the guard.An exposed blade as a result of defeated guardingmay result in serious personal injury during operation.In the interest of your personal safety, always maintainthe blade guard in good condition. Any irregular opera-tion of the blade guard should be corrected immediately.Check to assure spring loaded return action of guard.WARNING: Never use the tool if the bladeguard or spring are damaged, faulty or removed.Operation of the tool with a damaged, faulty orremoved guard may result in serious personal injury.If the see-through blade guard becomes dirty, or sawdustadheres to it in such a way that the blade and/or workpiece isno longer easily visible, unplug the saw and clean the guardcarefully with a damp cloth. Do not use solvents or any petro-leum-based cleaners on the plastic guard because this maycause damage to the guard.If the blade guard is especially dirty and vision throughthe guard is impaired, unplug the tool and use the sup-plied wrench to loosen the hex bolt holding the centercover. Loosen the hex bolt by turning it counterclock-wise and raise the blade guard and center cover. Withthe blade guard so positioned, cleaning can be morecompletely and efficiently accomplished. When cleaningis complete, reverse procedure above and secure bolt.Do not remove spring holding blade guard. If guardbecomes discolored through age or UV light exposure,contact a Makita service center for a new guard. DONOT DEFEAT OR REMOVE GUARD.
