13Kerf block (optional accessory)CAUTION:• When using the kerf block, always cut at the samemiter angle.• When changing the miter angle, use other kerfblocks.• When performing bevel cuts, never use the kerfblock.Failure to do so splits the block, causing a serious injuryto operator. When you use the kerf block at 90° cutting, you can splin-ter-free cut in workpiece on the side of the guide fence(height of the workpiece is up to 35 mm). Install the kerfblock onto the guide fence by means of the two screws.(Adjust the guide fence and the kerf block so that theycontact their faces. Then tighten the screws securely.)OPERATIONCAUTION:• Before use, be sure to release the handle from thelowered position by pulling the stopper pin.• Make sure the blade is not contacting theworkpiece, etc. before the switch is turned on.• Do not apply excessive pressure on the handlewhen cutting. Too much force may result inoverload of the motor and/or decreased cuttingefficiency. Push down handle with only as muchforce as is necessary for smooth cutting andwithout significant decrease in blade speed.• Gently press down the handle to perform the cut. Ifthe handle is pressed down with force or if lateralforce is applied, the blade will vibrate and leave amark (saw mark) in the workpiece and the precisionof the cut will be impaired.• During a slide cut, gently push the carriage towardthe guide fence without stopping. If the carriagemovement is stopped during the cut, a mark will beleft in the workpiece and the precision of the cut willbe impaired.1. Press cutting (cutting small workpieces)Workpieces up to 115 mm (4-1/2”) high and 75 mm(2-15/16”) wide can be cut in the following way.Push the carriage toward the guide fence fully andtighten the knob clockwise to secure the carriage.Secure the workpiece with the vise. Switch on thetool without the blade making any contact and waituntil the blade attains full speed before lowering. Then gently lower the handle to the fully loweredposition to cut the workpiece. When the cut is com-pleted, switch off the tool and WAIT UNTIL THEBLADE HAS COME TO A COMPLETE STOPbefore returning the blade to its fully elevated posi-tion.CAUTION:• Firmly tighten the knob clockwise so that thecarriage will not move during operation. Insufficienttightening may cause unexpected kickback of theblade. Possible serious PERSONAL INJURY mayresult.2. Slide (push) cutting (cutting wide workpieces)Loosen the knob counterclockwise so that the car-riage can slide freely. Secure the workpiece withthe vise. Pull the carriage toward you fully. Switchon the tool without the blade making any contactand wait until the blade attains full speed. Pressdown the handle and PUSH THE CARRIAGETOWARD THE GUIDE FENCE AND THROUGHTHE WORKPIECE. When the cut is completed, switch off the tool and WAIT UNTIL THE BLADEHAS COME TO A COMPLETE STOP beforereturning the blade to its fully elevated position.1. Screw2. Kerf block3.
