Maintenance Section 44-12 Part Number 000001196 3/08Cleaning the CondenserAir-Cooled Condenser(SELF-CONTAINED AND REMOTE MODELS)A dirty condenser restricts airflow, resulting inexcessively high operating temperatures. This reducesice production and shortens component life. Clean thecondenser at least every six months. Follow the stepsbelow.1. The washable filter on self-contained ice machinesis designed to catch dust, dirt, lint and grease. Thishelps keep the condenser clean. Clean the filter witha mild soap and water solution.2. Clean the outside of the condenser with a soft brushor a vacuum with a brush attachment. Clean fromtop to bottom, not side to side. Be careful not tobend the condenser fins.3. Shine a flashlight through the condenser to checkfor dirt between the fins. If dirt remains:A. Blow compressed air through the condenser finsfrom the inside. Be careful not to bend the fanblades.B. Use a commercial condenser coil cleaner.Follow the directions and cautions supplied withthe cleaner.4. Carefully wipe off the fan blades and motor with asoft cloth. Do not bend the fan blades. If the fanblades are excessively dirty, wash with warm, soapywater and rinse thoroughly.Water-Cooled Condenserand Water Regulating ValveSymptoms of restrictions in the condenser water circuitinclude:• Low ice production• High water consumption• High operating temperatures• High operating pressuresIf the ice machine is experiencing any of these symptoms, the water-cooled condenser and water regulating valvemay require cleaning due to scale build-up.Because the cleaning procedures require special pumpsand cleaning solutions, qualified maintenance or servicepersonnel must perform them.! WarningDisconnect electric power to the ice machine andthe remote condenser at the electric service switchbefore cleaning the condenser.! CautionThe condenser fins are sharp. Use care whencleaning them.! CautionIf you are cleaning the condenser fan blades withwater, cover the fan motor to prevent waterdamage.
