• This equipment returns answer supervision to the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN)when Direct Inward Dialing (DID) calls are:- Answered by the called station.- Answered by the Attendant.- Routed to a recorded announcement that can be administered by the Customer PremiseEquipment (CPE) user.- Routed to a dial prompt.• This equipment returns answer supervision on all DID calls forwarded to the Public SwitchedTelephone Network (PSTN). Permissible exceptions are:- A call is unanswered.- A busy tone is received.- A reorder tone is received.VOICE ANNOUNCEMENT/MONITORING OVER DID LINESWhen using voice announcement or monitoring over DID Lines, observe the following.CAUTIONUsing the Voice Announcement feature to eavesdrop or record sound activities at the other end of thetelephone line may be illegal under certain circumstances and laws. Consult a legal advisor beforeimplementing any practice to monitor or record a telephone conversation. Some federal and state lawsrequire a party monitoring or recording a telephone to use a beep-tone(s), notify all parties to thetelephone conversation and/or obtain consent of all parties to the telephone conversation. Inmonitoring or recording sound activities at the other end of the telephone line using the VoiceAnnouncement feature, the sound of the alert tone at the beginning of the Voice Announcement mayor may not be considered sufficient under applicable laws. Some of the applicable laws provide forstrict penalties for illegal monitoring or recording of telephone conversations.EQUAL ACCESS REQUIREMENTSIf equipment such as Private Branch Exchanges (PBX), key systems or customer-owned coin/creditcard telephones is sold to a call aggregator, it must be capable of providing users access to interstateproviders of operator services through the use of access codes. Modification of this equipment by callaggregators to block access dialing codes is a violation of the Telephone Operator Consumers Act of1990.ELECTRICAL SAFETY ADVISORYParties responsible for equipment requiring AC power should consider including an advisory notice intheir customer information suggesting the customer use a surge arrestor. Telephone companies reportthat electrical surges, typically lightening transients, are very destructive to customer terminalequipment connected to AC power sources. This has been identified as a major nationwide problem.HEARING AID COMPATIBILITYNEC Multiline Terminals and NEC Single Line Telephones that are provided for this system arehearing aid compatible.
