Selecting Paper and Media 6–9AdhesiveLabelsAdhesive labels consist of a top (print surface) sheet,an adhesive layer, and a liner (peel-away backing). The top sheet is usually xerographic paper and mustmeet the general specifications for that kind of paper. The liner must be coated for easy release of the topsheet and adhesive layer sheets, particularly afterbeing subjected to print head heat.NEC tested Avery® 5162 labels and obtainedsatisfactory results.NOTE: Label properties can be changed by themanufacturers. NEC has no control over suchchanges. Thus NEC neither warrants nor recom-mends the use of any particular label and the userassumes all responsibility as to the quality andperformance of labels selected.Note the following considerations regarding theprinting of labels.Labels must be set on and fed from the paperhopper one sheet at a time (do not place morethan one in the hopper). In order to minimizecurling, labels must be ejected from the face-down door. The adhesive should not melt or generate harm-ful emissions at temperatures greater than 200˚C(392˚F) for 0.1 second.Labels should cover the entire surface of the linersheet. Labels placed on a liner sheet with inter-rupting spaces make it difficult for consistentfeeding because one sheet contains multiple“double-thickness” areas.
