Quick StartThis section is a rapid guide for installing your printer andpreparing it for use. It contains a sequence of operationswhich should beperformed in the order described.More detailed information about the printer features andfunctions is given in the User Guide.UnpackingKeep the carton and all the packing materials in caseyou have to repack or ship the printer.Carton contentsAs well as this instructions manual and the NEC MediaSample Pak, the packing carton also contains (see figureon page I):A - Printer B - Power cableC - Manual feeder document supportD - ASF document support E - Output tray extensionF - Interface socket cover G - Diskette and CDH - Ink jet print heads I - Print head storage boxAs soon as you have removed the printer and itsaccessories from the packing carton, check that all theparts ordered have been delivered and are undamaged.If anything is missing or damaged, contact your localretailer immediately.The interface cable for connecting the printer toyour PC is NOT supplied with the printer.1. Place the printer on an ample, stable surfacenear your computer or work station.2. Make sure that there is enough space around the printerfor all its parts to be accessed comfortably.3. Make sure that there is a convenient independentelectrical power supply socket to which you can connectthe printer.4.Do NOT leave the printer exposed to direct sunlightor heat sources, or in dusty, dirty or poorlyventilated environments.Identifying the Printer PartsTake a few minutes to study your printer and identify itsparts. Refer to the figures in the first section of the manual.Connecting Your PrinterTo the electrical power supplyYour printer has no ON-OFFswitch; once it is connectedto the electrical power supply, it is powered by pressingthe POWERkey on the operator panel, so make sure thatit is on a stable surface and that the cover is closed.1.
