Loading Paper in the PrinterSee the sequence of figures on page IX.1. Holding the tab on the left edge of the guide on the ASF,move it to its extreme left position (physical left handmargin).2. Fan the paper thoroughly.3. Align the paper against the physical right hand marginand load it into the ASF, pushing it down carefully until itstops inside the printer.The ASF can contain up to 120 x 21 lbs single sheets ofplain paper. For other types of documents andenvelopes, see “Paper” in the User Guide.Do NOT add paper to that already in the ASF; alwaysremove any existing paper and fan it together with thepaper to be loaded.4. Position the left guide against the left edge of the paper.5. With the printer powered, press the PAPER key. Asheet of paper is inserted to the first print position (TOF -Top of Form). Press PAPER again, to make sure thatthe paper feeds smoothly without crushing or skewing.The paper will exit on to the output tray spoilers and willdrop into the tray when PAPER is pressed again toload another sheet.For further information on paper types, sizes, etc., see“Paper” in the User Guide.Inserting the Print HeadsSee the sequence of figures on page IV and the instruc-tions on the inside of the cover (template on page XI).The print head carriage on your printer is designed to holdtwo print heads: monochrome black, on the left; color, onthe right.BOTH print headsMUST be insertedBEFOREattempting any printing operation. To insert the print heads,proceed as follows:1. Make sure the printer is powered (if it is not, press thePOWER key on the operator panel).2. Open the sealed print head container of themonochrome print head and remove the instructionsleaflet (which should be kept for future reference).3. Remove the print head from the container, holding it bythe thumb and finger grip (end opposite the protectivefilm).4. Remove the protective film from the print head (point 2in figure 1 on page VIII).Do not touch either the electrical contacts(golden area - point 1 of figure 1 on page VIII) orthe printing nozzles (end opposite the finger/thumb grip - point 3 of figure 1 on page VIII) norsit the print head on either of them.5. Open the printer cover; the print head carriage will moveautomatically to the head loading position for themonochrome print head (left hand chamber) and thelight indicators will start flashing alternately.4 Quick Start
