BatteryI DANGER Never touch the batteryelectrolyte. The diluted sulphu-ric acid solution burns skin andmake holes in clothing. Shouldthis occur, immediately washit off with plenty of clean waterand obtain medical assistancewithout delay. Disconnect the battery leadsbefore carrying out any solderingwork on metallic hull.Always read the manufacturerrecommendations before operatingthe battery.Battery should be kept clean anddry. Oxidation or the deposit ofimpurities on the battery and on itsterminals may lead to short cir-cuits, voltage drops and prematuredischarging, notably in wet weather.Use a brass brush to clean batteryterminals. When DISCONNECTING thestarter cables, always disconnectFIRST the NEGATIVE LEAD (-),and then the POSITIVE (+).Always CONNECT FIRST thePOSITIVE LEAD (+) to the POSI-TIVE TERMINAL (+) of the battery, and then the NEGATIVE (-).Use distilled water to top up theelectrolyte level. Follow in prioritythe battery manufacturer instruc-tions for topping up. If the batteryelectrolyte level is not adjustable(maintenance free battery type), donot use or charge the battery if thefluid level stands below the lowerlimit level. When adding electrolyte, unscrewthe vent plugs but leave them intheir holes.I DANGERCheck that the battery compart-ment is well drained and venti-lated. When charging, batteryproduces hydrogen which isextremely explosive. If the battery is replaced, use abattery with similar specifications tothe previous one.To simultaneously charge twoindependent battery with a singlealternator, an isolator is available asan option on most engines. Contactan authorized Nanni dealer. When storing the engine, adjust thebattery electrolyte level and store itin a dry place. Recharge the batteryas often as possible to extend itsservice life.52
